'Setting Out'


Dear aspiring entrepreneur,

Thank you for joining us again this week. We will continue our gist about 'setting out' on the journey of entrepreneurship.
We established last week that being in paid employment is not a curse or a trap. Even while you are there, there is always something to learn. One of the best places to learn diligence and corporate governance is in paid employment. 
A friend of mine who is one of the most hardworking young people I know around started out his career in a fast food and he was running a part time program in Lagos. Combining both laid the foundation for his work ethics today. You may believe you are not working in a place related to what your dream business is but trust me, there is always something to learn. Even at that, continue doing your research on your future project and plan your strategies ahead. 
The best time to plan for projects is when you are under no pressure of time. All your creativity flows.
While you are learning at that job, keep the dream alive and keep planning.

Dear Entrepreneur, Thank you for joining us once again. I believe we have been enjoying our gist so far. Now that we have decided on how to choose the side hustle (in preparation for setting out fully), the next thing is to write out how it will be run- your business plan. I have found out from experience that Nigerians have lofty business dreams but fail to be realistic. A business plan should be practical and not wholly based on 'faith'. Be truthful to yourself. Your projections and figures should not be ambiguous. Carry out your market analysis properly. Google is your friend, use it. Study market trends. If it is a new product, carry out surveys to know if it will be acceptable to your target market. If it is an existing product, what do you want to do differently?
