My team-Our success 1
Today, I want to address both the employer and the employed. Our success rises and falls largely on the team we work with. make no mistake, you cannot work in isolation. You need a team to achieve your goals, they are the backbone of how well your business would strive .
Have you ever experienced soliciting the services of a technically competent Naija company and the leader or members of the team are have this 'we have arrived attitude/you meed us we don't need you' body language? All because the company has some small change o!
It is said that a team can not rise above its leadership. i beg you
learn how to manage a team before you become a team leader . If you
have to invest time and money to learn team building, please do. It will
save you a lot of headache.
I have watched people who had amazing and effective teams destroy those teams based on ridiculous and foolish leadership styles. They say one style is 'divide and rule'. Hmmn. Shebi when you polarize your team and your best hands leave, you will be alright?
Let me state here categorically : you attract the kind of team members your leadership style portrays, and you will now have people in your team that will do even worse things that you can ever imagine!
Team building is not a 'walk in the park'.
However, it is not rocket science. It can be learnt. Put some time and effort into it. You don't and can never know it all. Diversity in a team brings results. To be a team leader, you have to subject yourself to continuous learning. I know in this part of the world our parents pray for us from childhood that 'Egbe lo ma sin e' (meaning you will not serve your mates, they will serve you). This might explain why we do not understand leadership as service to others and not to be served. It might also explain the reason why only 5% of family businesses makes it past the 3rd generation.
During my training school class in GTBank, one of our facilitators told us 'Never date a team member, it never ends well'. Over the years, I have found this to be true. And with our 'entitlement mentality' culture, you will just auto-cruise into destruction.
Build your team, don't destroy it. Help your team, don't tear it apart. Have a great week ahead.
Till I share with you some other customized team styles in this series on team building, May God bless our hustle
